| ||SF NOPE Meeting & Trimming the Manuscript|
Saturday the SF Nopers met in The
Women's Building, a amazing community center that you can't miss from
the street because it's covered in amazing murals. El Teatro Jornalero!
used to rehearse there, and let me tell you those were the days, the
hey days of ETJ! when it was working on Soldado de Arena, when the
original company was there and I was first becoming a part of their
The Nope meeting began late as
usual when people have to contend with SF parking and public transit.
There were five of us there and it took us a while to actually talk
about logistics, which was a bit frustrating for me since we have two
weeks and to properly get the word out you have to have all the info
set, the format, the panelists, the where, the when, all that jazz. I
left at 1pm feeling like a lot of work still had to be done. The rest
of the group met til 2pm and got a bit more work done. I'm wondering if
we'll be able to pull it off.
Yesterday I attack my poetry
manuscript. I'm applying for a grant and the guidelines say the
manuscript can be no longer than 40 pages. Now, my thesis is 54 pages.
So that meant I needed to cull 14 pages and still keep a cohesive
narrative. Essentially I had to take out an entire thread. The entire
manuscript has many threads: culture, language, my mother, my
father, nature, crossing the border. The latter two went to the
chopping block, sadly. I just need to print it out and make sure
everything copasetic. Thank goodness for guidelines that stipulate
"must be postmarked by," so much better than "must be received by." I
have a few more days to take it to the post office.
