| | Learn To Be Latina was En Fuego!
That means "on fire." I love that line. Last night I went to Enrique's play reading of Learn to be Latina. He's been a writing fiend for the past few weeks, working diligently to expand his one act play into a full-length.
Now I've seen this play twice
before. Once last summer as a part of BASH (Bay Area Shorts!) and once
as a fully produced short play as part of Golden Thread's ReOrient play
festival. First impression: Hysterical! Second impression with the
benefit of props, music, slides and choreography: Outrageous!
So I love this play. Love
Enrqiue's lyrical composition of dialog, love the sock puppet, love how
he fiercely goes for the jugular with his comedy. And even though I've
seen half of the full-length version before, I was still laughing at
the jokes (I have a sneaky suspicion there were even new jokes in that
first act).
All I have to say is my knee is
sore, I'm a knee slapper when something
Oh-My-God-hysterical-in-a-totally-inappropriate-and-non-pc-but-used-for-irony
joke is delivered. And there were plenty.
So congratulations to the very
talented Enrique Urueta. The play is really coming along. I know he's
wants to perhaps develop it a bit more, it's almost there.
USF Poets Update: Tonight is the
send off dinner for Mr. Alex Davis as he and his wife prepare to move
back to the east coast. Before going to the dinner I hope to stop by
HRC for a book reading--I met the author of The Zookeeper through a
coworker and wanted to go show my support. Hopefully I'll make it. It's
half past noon now and I want to try and get some research and writing
done for the LPI deadline this week.
