 Manic Monday

Well...maybe not too manic. But that's the title that popped into my head and I'm feeling too low energy to change it. I guess the "manic" is supposed to sum up the swirl of activity surrounding me, even though I at the epicenter feel unusually lethargic.

And why am I lethargic. Well, I have a house guest that arrived around 10:30 last night. My friend Gloria is currently acting in Marin Theatre's production of Lydia by Octavio Solis. Gloria is an L.A. actress, but I met her last year when she read the part of Fatima in my play American Triage.

Gloria's been in the Bay Area for a while leading up to the play's opening, but her rehearsal schedule and my schedule have been packed. Today, her day off, she's headed to Monterey and asked if she could stay at my place here in SF to give her a leg up on her day trip. Sure, I said, come on over, we'll catch up.

So we started catching up around 11pm which was after our trip to a corner store for a bottle of red wine. Please, someone remind me to stay away from red wine.

By 2 am we had run through the past year our lives and were laughing up a storm. So here I am at work, a little green around the gills and looking forward to lunch when I can grab some hearty soup.

Oh, but I guess the real "manic" comes from a new deadline. I want to submit my new play Heart Shaped Nebula to Marin Theatre for the 2010 Sky Cooper Award. Since I don't have an agent (yet), I have to submit only 10 pages of the play and if they like it they'll ask for the entire script.

Well, I want those ten pages to be good ones and my prologue and first scene are just about 10 pages. I need to tweak it a bit, rewrite here and there and send it on it's way. But this also means I need to stick to my goal of finishing draft 2 by the end of April.

I've always said deadlines are a great way to light a fire under you, well, it's a 3 alarm blaze, people.

More later,
M
