Woman on Fire Table Read: It's On!

I just got a call from my dramaturg Nakissa. She's sent an email out to our actors earlier this week to get a sense of their schedules and now she has 2 potential table reading dates: Monday and Tuesday!

I wasn't quite expecting the table read to happen so quickly, but in a way I'm grateful. It's time. Let's get back into this play, make final edits and start sending it out into the world of Artistic Directors and theatres. I feel like a mother bird trying to kick a hatchling out of the nest, trying to get it to open its wings and take off.

My job now is to take one final look at the script before and make any changes I want to make before the table read. I do have a few items I want to address:

  • Time: I'd like to set the play in a specific time/year; perhaps when Bush announced that the National Guard was going to watch the border; that means that Araceli could be doing research on the National Guard = tension between her Jared is slightly more nuanced
  • repetative phrases: I like repetition, but only when it's intentional. There's a line I've noticed over and over again that I want to address head on.
I'm going to use tonight and Sunday to make all my changes. Monday I will be printing the new scripts. This'll mean a trip to Staples (for script folders) and Kinko's (for copies).

Here's to progress!
