| | Ninja Muse Strikes Again

Now, ninja muse is different from my muse being on fire creatively.
Ninja muse is stealthy. Ninja muse won't be ignored. Ninja muse gets me to write when I don't even want to (which has more to do with the topic than with the actual act of writing).
Take last Monday.
With my muse completely amped after the play reading I was ready. Ready to keep on writing. Ready to keep the momentum going. After all, a muse in motion, stays in motion.
One of the actors from the reading had asked if I had any monologues they could use for auditions. Hmmm...Well, most of my characters are women, but there are a few guys sprinkled around for good measure (just kidding, I don't set out with predetermined gender guidelines for plays, the characters in my plays are just the ones who showed up in my imagination).
While digging around in the scripts to pull out the monologues and fragments of monologues I have for male characters I suddenly heard a phrase in my head. And oh, no. It was the beginning of a monologue that wanted to be written. A monologue not attached to any of the plays or works in progress I'm working on.
Resistance was futile.
As it was yesterday morning when I found myself writing a poem on the commute to work. Amazingly the poem doesn't need any edits. That hasn't happened in...forever...or maybe ever. My poems generally need tweaking, but this one, this simple poem of mainly couplets, it's pretty perfect (if I do say so myself).
Maybe ninja muse knows what it's doing, so there's no use trying resist it. And why would I resist my muse. Besides, that's not a habit I want to get into.
