| | An Actual Rewrite Part Deux or It Ain't Over Yet, Baby
Yesterday I had a chat with my dramaturg Nakissa. I had sent her the rewritten scene 6 from Heart Shaped Nebula to get her thoughts on the changes I had made.
We talked for about an hour, that's sans the times when calls were dropped (I don't know if it's her phone or mine, but lately this happens to us a lot when we try to talk over the phone). She gave me lots of good notes on how to polish scene 6 for the reading, little things like trying to realize on the page some of the more subtle cues I was trying to put into the scene. Apparently they were too subtle.
Most importantly we talked about how this new scene 6 would affect scene 7.
Of course! Silly playwright, if you change scene 6 it's gonna mean you have to rewrite the ending.
That's right, folks. I'm gonna have to do another round of rewrites. But first I'm going to tomorrow's rehearsal where I'll hear the last three scenes of the play all together to see how I'll change the final scene. The second rehearsal is Tuesday so I'll have time over the weekend to make those rewrites and then boom. That's it. No more rehearsals really after Tuesday, except for the early call to the theatre before the reading.
I guess I should have known better. It's not over. Not by a long shot.
