Awesome Vanguardia Rehearsal Last Night
First know that with the exception of Wednesday when I was forced by sheer exhaustion (okay that’s a little overstated, but I was damn tired) to go to bed early (as in 9:30pm) I’ve been staying up ’til 1am every night doing something to prep for Vanguardia. As are the other producers, I’m sure.
I’ve been concentrating mainly on music and last night I had a bit of a small rewrite to attend to.
Why the rewrite? Well, last night was my rehearsal for my scene from Ghost Limb which will open the second act of Vanguardia on Saturday. I only have 2 actors in my piece so we were a small group last night, just me, my director, our stage manager and the actors.
They read through the play several times and occasionally asked questions of me for clarification. That’s the great thing about doing table work and a reading. You finally get to see what on the page is still confusing, unclear and needs further elaboration.
Case in point, last night I had to do a bit of rewrite to flesh out a line that if left as is would likely be confusing and hard to follow. So I fleshed out the thought and I think now the monologue is richer for it.
I’m feeling really good about my scene. I have awesome actors (Mary Ann Rodgers and Lawrence Radecker) and like I said a great director. Seeing the scene on its feet was wonderful, kinda what I need right now: something to inspire my muse to get into rewrites and perhaps really tackle that play.
